Our caucus

Disabled people are whole people.

People have inherent worth outside of capitalist notions of productivity. Each person is full of history and life experiences and should be valued who and how they are.

A Pakistani Deaf woman wearing a hijab sits on a bench at an art museum, immersed in a world of florals and soft hues. She places her powered-off hearing aids on top of a sketchbook to her right, closing out the surrounding noise. A tablet and stylus pen have been set down on the left side of the bench.

Forward together.

We respect the insights of all community members, regardless of their disability. Isolation undermines our collective efforts and so we must work together across disabilities to create a more inclusive and equitable world.

A sustainable movement.

This fight started long before us and will go long after. We pace ourselves, individually and collectively, to be sustained long-term. We care for ourselves and each other as we move towards ongoing liberation.

Committed to Cross-Movement Solidarity

Our politics are those of alliance. White supremacy, heteropatriarchy and ableism are inextricably entwined.

We work hand in hand with other DFL Community Caucuses and Outreach Organizations to facilitate collaborative efforts, and build lasting coalitions with other communities.
